This week, we began our meeting by discussing the end of the long French summer vacation and how it differs from the American school calendar. French students typically enjoy two full months of summer vacation (from early July to early September). This extended break is seen as essential for rest and cultural enrichment. We explored how “la rentrée” is a big event in France, not just for students, but also for workers returning from vacation. It’s a period marked by new beginnings, sales, and media coverage. American students only have around 8–10 weeks of summer break, starting in June and ending in mid-to-late August. To wrap up our meeting, we had a fun and interactive Gimkit quiz focused on vocabulary and phrases related to summer vacation and going back to school. Everyone enjoyed the friendly competition and got to reinforce key terms from the discussion.
