During our meeting we started with brief introductions in French, followed by a game of “Le Mot Associé” (word association) to practice vocabulary. Then, we engaged in some role-play scenarios, such as ordering food at a restaurant and asking for directions, to simulate real-life conversations, encouraging quick thinking, pronunciation practice, and fluency.

During the meeting, we discussed a variety of topics, including the recent snow, where we shared our experiences and opinions about the weather. Then, we talked about our asynchronous learning days, discussing its benefits and challenges, especially for French language classes. During our Zoom meeting, we discussed topics related to Valentine’s Day. We shared our thoughts on how the day is celebrated and exchanged ideas about sweet treats commonly enjoyed during this time. We didn’t have a very large turnout today, likely as a result of the Super Bowl. So, during our meeting, in light of the current events, we talked about sports and our favorite teams! Our meeting ended early, lasting only 30 minutes, so everyone could get to watch the teams play à la Nouvelle-Orléans!

During our meeting this week, we began by discussing the French holiday La Chandleur, where the French celebrate the presentation of Jesus to the Temple. We talked about the various foods we would eat during this holiday– mostly crêpes. We then played a game of kahoot, practicing our French vocabulary and cultural knowledge.

This week, we discussed our favorite snow and wintertime activities. However, we quickly began to discuss how beautiful it would be to live in France during the wintertime. We then talked about our favorite meals to eat when it’s cold outside. Finally, we played a Quizlet live to test our winter vocabulary! Chouet!

During this week’s meeting we focused heavily on practicing our conversational skills! We discussed the cultural background of the French holiday l’Epiphanie as well as the foods commonly eaten then.
